I'd rather be shot in the foot than get stupid advice.
I've had some very stupid thing said to me lately. Things that, unless they were intended to make me angry, should never have been said. Among these, one stands out. The quote is originally from my Father (shocker) and it went a little something like this.
I called him because I'm trying to be a good daughter and communicate. Here's our conversation. (Extreme stupidity highlighted in red.)
"Hi dad"
"hey honey! what's going on?"
"Oh, the usual, school and work and school and work."
"You really need to relax more."
"Yeah, but I need to work all the time to pay for school. and when I'm not working school takes up all my time."
"You know, You should really find a way to have more money and more free time."
Wow.
Well thank you! Why the hell didn't I think of that? I was so angry that I had to get off the phone. He is retired and since he's magically vanished from our home, has no bills. So It's easy for him to say "You know, you should really find a way to have more money and more free time." (It even made me mad the second time I typed it.)
I'm not retired. and since I don't have a degree yet, I have to be in school AND I can't really get a better job because I don't have a degree and school takes up my time... the cycle ontinues. It's that simple. So basically my phrase of the day is "think before you speak" and don't say something to ridiculous and dim-witted to someone who is so tired and stressed out from the position she has no choice but to be in that she can't handle it.
So you know, Dad, "You should really find a way to get a little more tactful."
